Santo Domingo, DR. – The executive director of the National Energy Commission (CNE), Edward Veras, highlighted the fundamental role of energy storage and renewable energy in the energy future of the Dominican Republic, during his participation in the program “Urgent Dialogue”, broadcast by EN Television, highlighting the facilities implemented by the government of President Luis Abinader to promote this development.

Veras explained that, thanks to the implementation of high-capacity battery storage projects, the country will be able to use solar energy at night, which will allow a significant reduction in fossil fuel consumption. This will not only contribute to the reduction of dependence on oil, but will also have a positive impact on the country's trade balance.

"Starting next year, with the arrival of the first battery bank for the large-scale electrical system, we will be able to use solar energy for four hours at night, reducing the cost of electricity and benefiting the national economy," said Veras.

The executive director of the CNE highlighted that there are already 20 solar energy projects with storage systems in various stages of development, which will allow renewable energy to be supplied even during peak demand hours, contributing to the stability and sustainability of the electrical system. He also mentioned that these advances are possible thanks to private investment, facilitated by the Dominican government through the streamlining of permits and concessions.

Veras also highlighted that under the administration of President Luis Abinader, renewable energy generation capacity has reached 21% of the national energy matrix, including hydroelectric energy. The objective is to continue increasing this share with the aim of achieving greater energy independence and promoting sustainable economic growth.

The Dominican government's commitment to sustainability and clean energy is in line with international trends, highlighting the importance of continuing to invest in solar and wind energy projects to achieve a greater share of renewable energy in the coming years.

The Dominican Republic continues to establish itself as a benchmark in the energy transition of the region, positioning itself for a greener, more competitive and self-sufficient future in terms of energy.
