Nearshoring, megaprojects to boost Mexico cement production – Holcim
The construction of industrial parks due to the nearshoring phenomenon and infrastructure megaprojects are fueling the Mexican cement industry, according to Holcim México.
“There will be continuity in infrastructure works. I was in Quintana Roo [state], seeing the development of the Maya train. There will be a lot of work there next year,” local daily El Financiero reported the cement company’s CEO, Jaime Hill Tinoco, as saying. “In the case of Holcim México we also have a very important dam in the north of the country, the Libertad dam,” he added.
Hill said Mexico produces enough cement to meet increasing domestic demand as well as boosting exports to US states like Texas and Arizona.
The country produced close to 44Mt of cement in 2022 for the domestic market and around 2Mt for export markets, according to figures from Mexican cement chamber Canacem.
Some infrastructure megaprojects will be inaugurated this month, but several works related to those projects are expected to continue in 2024. This is the case with the Maya train, which will be partially inaugurated on December 15 and become fully operational next year.
