Ministry of Energy and Mines

The investment made for the recovery and maintenance of thermal power plants, which contributes more than 700 MW to the System; the start-up of Toachi Pilatón (254 MW) after 14 years of abandonment; the incorporation of additional energy through floating generation solutions, the correct management of the reservoirs of the main hydroelectric plants and the application of strategic plans for energy generation, are some of the measures adopted in a committed manner by the Government of El Nuevo Ecuador, which have allowed the resumption of electricity exports.

This strategic planning allows the reservoirs to maintain the highest level, which maximizes the operation of the plants. For example, on February 18, the Mazar reservoir reached 2,154 m above sea level, one meter above its maximum level.

Through the National Electricity Operator -CENACE- the generation of electric energy is being optimized to supply national demand, and its surpluses are offered to Colombia through the existing commercial mechanism between the two countries.

Electricity exports do not affect the country's energy reserves. Furthermore, it should be noted that responsible management of reservoirs keeps them at optimal levels. The National Government reaffirms its commitment to work permanently to strengthen the National Electric System, which is operated under strict quality criteria, in order to guarantee an efficient energy service for Ecuadorian families.
