New La Paz landfill to open this week

Bnamericas
The Alpacoma sanitary landfill that will serve Bolivian capital La Paz will begin operations from October 30, mayor Roberto Moscoso was quoted as saying in El Diario. Works to prepare the site to receive waste have entered into their final stages with the waste pit being lined with special materials to contain toxic runoff. The landfill is to replace the Mallasa facility that was due to close last month but is still in operation because of delays getting the new site ready for business. Alpacoma is 14km from La Paz and will receive about 450t/d of waste.
