New Mexico airport to have air taxi service to capital

Bnamericas

A couple of days before the opening of Felipe Ángeles international airport (AIFA) in Mexico state, the federal government announced that there will be air taxi services available to and from the capital’s upscale district of Polanco.

During his morning press conference on Friday in Minatitlán, Veracruz state, President Andrés Manuel López Obrador said passengers who have the resources to pay for the service will be dropped off “practically at their doorstep.”

“The airport has an exclusive area for air taxis, we already have three companies that will be working there and each of them will have two helicopters,” said defense minister Luis Cresencio Sandoval, who has supervised the AIFA project.

BNamericas contacted the defense ministry to find out which air taxi companies had offered to operate at AIFA but a spokesperson said the names are not available, but may be revealed on Monday.

According to the federal government, there will be 14 public transport routes to reach the new airport from Mexico City. However, some works, like highways and a suburban rail line extension, are likely to be finished in 2023.
