New Petrobras FPSO close to arriving in Brazil

Petrobras’ Maria Quitéria FPSO is expected to arrive in Brazil from China in the coming weeks, the company said in its Q2 production and sales report. 

The platform left China in May and is scheduled to begin operations in the last quarter of the year. 

The FPSO will operate in the Jubarte field, in the pre-salt of the Campos basin off the coast of Espírito Santo state. The unit has the capacity to produce 100,000b/d of oil and process 5Mm3/d of natural gas. 

The vessel was chartered by Petrobras from Yinson, which was also responsible for its construction.

The state-run firm has another FPSO that is expected to produce its first oil this year. The Marechal Duque de Caxias unit completed anchoring in the Mero field, in the Santos basin pre-salt, in June. 

Chartered from Misc, the platform will be Mero’s third definitive production system and has the capacity to produce up to 180,000b/d of oil and 12Mm3/d of gas.

OUTPUT

Petrobras' average production of oil, natural gas liquids and natural gas in Q2 reached 2.70Mboe/d (million barrels of oil equivalent per day), an increase of 2.4% compared to the same period 2023, the report published on Monday shows.  

Among the main factors for the variation were the ramp-up of the Almirante Barroso, P-71, Anna Nery, Anita Garibaldi and Sepetiba FPSOs, as well as the start-up of 12 new wells from complementary projects, eight in the Campos basin and four in the Santos basin. 

Compared to Q1, production was 2.8% lower, mainly due to maintenance stoppages and the natural decline of mature fields. 

These factors were partially offset by the entry of new wells from complementary projects in the Campos and Santos basins and the ramp-up of FPSO Sepetiba in the Mero field, the federal oil company said.
