New Report: Unlocking opportunity in Latin America's hydrogen economy

As the global energy landscape shifts toward decarbonization, Latin America and the Caribbean (LAC) are emerging as key players in the burgeoning clean hydrogen segment.
The region is well-positioned to produce low-cost, sustainable hydrogen for both domestic use and export, leveraging abundant renewable energy resources, vast land availability, growing government support and strategic access to both the Atlantic and Pacific oceans.
This potential aligns with intensifying efforts to phase out fossil fuels as industries and countries increasingly turn to cleaner alternatives. Hydrogen, particularly green hydrogen sourced from renewable energy, is gaining traction as a versatile solution for hard-to-abate sectors such as steel, chemicals, and heavy transport. Its role as a fuel, industrial feedstock, and energy carrier makes it a critical component of the transition to low-carbon energy systems.
While LAC countries have varying levels of readiness, several – including Chile, Brazil, Colombia, Paraguay, and Uruguay – are already positioning themselves as leaders in hydrogen production and innovation. However, realizing this potential requires overcoming significant challenges, including infrastructure development, financing, regulatory frameworks, and market demand. Read more here.
