With the completion of raw materials procurement, US cable manufacturer Nexans began production of the TAM-1 Submarine Cable System owned by Trans Americas Fiber Systems.
Production is underway at Nexans’ manufacturing facility in Rognan, Norway. The site is capable of manufacturing up to 10,000km of cable per year, Trans Americas said in a release.
TAM-1 will span 7,000km from the state of Florida to several countries in the Americas, including Colombia, the Northern Caribbean (Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, and the British Virgin Islands), Mexico, and Central America (Guatemala, Honduras, Costa Rica, and Panama).
Nexans' manufacturing work is being carried out together with Xtera, the US provider of the cable repeaters and overall contractor for the TAM-1 project.
Last month, Trans Americas announced the completion of the marine survey stage for TAM-1.
The cable company, which is controlled by the UK's Global Telecommunications Investment and LW Subsea Holdings, said TAM-1 continues on track to be ready for service in 2025.
