Nicaragua, Honduras, El Salvador aim to develop infra projects in Fonseca Gulf

Nicaragua, El Salvador and Honduras have agreed to develop a master plan to study potential infrastructure opportunities that may be developed on or close to the Gulf of Fonseca, on which all three countries have coastline.
Government representatives from the three countries met in Managua Thursday to explore different initiatives to boost economic development in the Gulf area, reported official Nicaraguan media outlet El 19 Digital.
The countries agreed to involve the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (CABEI) in the development of the master plan and carry out of the relevant studies to identify infrastructure projects and other actions that could attract investment, create jobs and help address health and environmental problems in the communities in the area, which lies on the Pacific coast of Central America,
"This is about improving living conditions for the residents of the three countries by taking advantage of the wealth and opportunities that we have, such as tourism, or logistics or the production possibilities in the area," Ebal Diaz, Honduras' cabinet minister was quoted as saying.
Some of the projects that could be developed include the construction of a ferry service between Nicaragua's Corinto port and La Unión port in El Salvador, a project that has been planned for years, as well as a free trade area, among others, Nicaraguan vice president and first lady Rosario Murillo announced in her daily news briefing.
The meeting was also attended by Nicaragua's foreign affairs advisor minister Sidhartha Marín and Carlos Pozo, El Salvador's presidential commissioner for border issues.
Another meeting to discuss the matter, which will be attended by the presidents of the three countries, is expected to take place in the coming months.
