Nicaragua targets electrification in 2023 budget
Nicaragua’s national assembly has approved the 2023 national budget, which reaches 110bn córdobas (US$3.06bn) and includes funds to advance electrification.
Of the total, 739mn córdobas have been allocated to the energy and mines ministry, and 639mn córdobas to State power transmission company Enatrel, primarily to strengthen the power grid, with the support of foreign financing.
Planned works that fall under the ministry's responsibility include the construction of 178km of distribution lines and the installation of 4,525 solar photovoltaic systems.
Enatrel’s proposed action plan for next year includes the construction of 77km of 138kV lines, increasing transformation capacity at various substations to 110MVA and an overhaul of the national load dispatch center CNDC.
The budget also highlights that the government’s pre-investment fund will be used to carry out a prefeasibility study for additional substations and lines, among other dispatch infrastructure.
