Nicaragua's congress to approve water loan
Nicaragua's congressional committee on production, economy and budget is about to discuss the approval of a loan agreement signed by the national government and the Central American Bank for Economic Integration (Cabei), government media outlets reported.
The US$38.8mn loan, which was formally inked last month, will finance a sanitation project involving a new wastewater treatment plant in Bluefields, capital of the south Caribbean autonomous region.
The loan consists of a co-financing arrangement, with US$17.8mn coming from Cabei and US$21mn from South Korea.
Among others, the loan will also finance 13 new pumping stations and 51.3km of wastewater collectors and sub-collectors, as well as the installation of 630 monitoring and cleaning devices and 4,945 household connections.
Around 28,000 residents in the municipality, which currently has no sewage system, stand to benefit.
Works will form part of the government's national plan for human development.
