Nicaragua’s construction sector showing double-digit growth

The Nicaraguan construction sector grew 16% in the first seven months of the year. 

The figures from the country’s construction chamber (CNC) were reported by local media outlet Vos TV.

Road infrastructure and other public sector projects are the drivers of the sector’s strong expansion, Vos TV cited CNC president José Ángel Nicaragua Latino as saying. 

Projects include highways, hydraulic infrastructure, water supply and sewage systems, hospitals and schools, he said at a construction fair. 

The government is planning works on 526km of highways this year, with some to be finished in 2022 and some next year, the outlet reported transport and infrastructure minister Óscar Mojica as saying. “It’s a major effort by the government to stimulate the construction sector,” he said.
