Nine groups after Guyana utility-scale solar, storage package

Guyana Power and Light (GPL) received nine offers for projects under the GUYSOL utility-scale solar capacity and associated battery energy storage program.

The work entails the engineering, procurement and construction of three plants totaling 15MWp with a combined 22MWh of battery energy storage systems.

Information from the National Procurement and Tender Administration shows that the bidders were:

SoEnergy International US$80.1mn

TOSL Engineering US$22.8mn

CH4 Systems US$57.8mn

Standby Power Engineering US$22.6mn

2020 FMCG US$23.5mn

Zhejiang Zhongnan Construction Group US$23.5mn

Instec-Sinosoar Consortium 175mn yuan (US$25mn)

PowerChina Jiangxi Electric Power Engineering US$27mn

Sumec-XJ Group US$22.6mn

As part of GUYSOL, construction began of a 5MW solar park with 12MWh of storage in Onderneeming, Region Two. Completion is slated for December 2025 and the plant will connect with a 3MW solar park to be built in Charity.

Most of the country’s electricity comes from fuel oil-fired plants, with renewables limited to small-scale, off-grid units. Next year, the grid will receive a boost from a 300MW gas-fired plant.

Meanwhile, Stantec International Consulting, RINA Consulting-Optima Ingenieria and Method4 Engineering submitted proposals to GPL for the engineering design to replace and upgrade existing 12km transmission lines L1 and L3 (Garden of Eden to Golden Grove), with new 69kV circuits.
