No let-up in growth of Guyana oil sector logistics

The east bank of the Demerara River in Guyana continues to attract companies looking to secure business from the build-out of the hydrocarbons sector.

The latest firm eyeing the area is Avocat Guyana Holdings which has proposed the construction of a chemical storage facility and laydown yard in Land of Canaan, Region 4, some 23km south of capital Georgetown.

“To facilitate the development of the new oil and gas sector and to rapidly increase petroleum production Guyana requires investments in local infrastructure to adequately provide shore base services to offshore oil and gas operators,” Avocat said in the project’s environmental assessment and management plan (EAMP) filed with the Environmental Protection Agency.

The company is working with Guyana Logistics and Support Services to build and operate the complex, which would be adjacent to operations of Baker Hughes Guyana and Triple D’s.

Avocat also highlights the implementation of the local content policy and the government’s push for oil and gas operators to use supply bases in Guyana.

The project is divided into four stages, the first of which will cost around US$4mn and take two years to complete, adds the EAMP, available here and in the Documents box in the upper right corner.
