Norwegian minister signs energy MOU

Bnamericas
Mexico's energy secretary Felipe Calderon and Norway's oil and energy minister Einar Steensnaes signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) last week to develop energy sector cooperation, Mexico's energy department said in a statement. "The main goals of the memorandum are the exchange of information, discussion and cooperation on energy matters of mutual interest between the two governments, and the promotion of cooperation between companies and organizations," the statement said. Although the memorandum covers the oil, natural gas and electricity markets, it does not address specific development projects in Mexico, such as natural gas production in its Burgos basin, a secretary spokesperson told BNamericas. Signing occurred behind closed doors, meaning agreement specifics are presently closed to the public, the spokesperson said. On Monday this week Steensnaes signed an MOU with Venezuela's energy and mines minister Rafael Ramirez.
