Nova Cedae upgrades Guandu treatment plant

Bnamericas
Brazil's Rio de Janeiro state water and sewerage utility Nova Cedae has completed an 18mn-real (US$9.64mn) upgrade of its Guandu potable water plant, the utility said in a release. The upgrade increased the plant's capacity by 1,000l/s, thus enabling it to produce 43,000l/s during peak time. Considered the largest of its kind in the world, the plant now uses 10% less energy. Routine maintenance such as pressure tests and the inspection of reservoirs, water channels, piping and pumps were carried out. The improvements involved 300 workers and took less than 24 hours to accomplish, the release said. Nova Cedae, in partnership with Brazilian power distributor Light, also installed 208 new valves to help reduce water losses.
