Brazil biodiesel output hits record high
Biodiesel production in Brazil last year hit a record 3.94Mm3, up 15.1% from 2014.
The mines and energy ministry also reported that installed biodiesel production capacity authorized to operate commercially was 7.26Mm3/year.
The center-west region lead output of the biofuel in 2015 with 44.4%, followed by the south (38.4%), northeast (8%), southeast (7.5%) and north (1.7%).
Soy was the principal feedstock, accounting for 77.4% while bovine fat and cotton represented 18.5% and 2%, respectively.
In recent days, legislators approved a bill to increase the biodiesel admixture
Ethanol production rose 7% to 30.0Bl, according to the ministry.
Last year, biodiesel and ethanol sales rose 17.4% and 19.6%, respectively, to 4.01Bl and 28.8Bl.
