Brazil to hold public meeting on rise in biodiesel mix

Brazil's energy ministry will hold a public meeting on September 21 to discuss an increase in the biodiesel admixture.

It is currently obligatory to have a minimum 10% of biodiesel in diesel sold in the country, but the goal of the meeting will be to establish a schedule under which that proportion will be raised to 15%. The ministry will take two proposals for public discussion: one for slower implementation of the rule or faster, which will depend on factors such as biodiesel competitiveness in terms of price and supply.

"The definition of the schedule is fundamental for public and private planning in the fuels market, as well as for the development of jobs and investments in the sector," the ministry said in a statement.

The public meeting is open to any interested participants upon prior registration on the ministry's website.
