Petroperú in push to maintain market share

One of Peruvian state oil company Petroperú's strategic objectives is to optimize commercial operations and logistics of the fuel value chain as part of efforts to maintain market share.

The NOC highlights that its market participation fell to 48% in the first three months of 2018 from 50% and 51% for all of 2017 and 2016, respectively.

The operator attributes the dip to "competitive and aggressive" competition, nevertheless, the company's first quarter local fuel sales rose 5.1% year-on-year to 125,500b/d.

To buoy its position, Petroperú is carrying out a number of fuel supply projects, such as the new Ilo terminal and the Pasco-Ninacaca plant.

The development pipeline includes a plant at Puerto Maldonado in the southeast Amazon region of Madre de Dios for the dispatch of diesel and gasoline.

BNamericas has learned that Petroperú has selected Lima-based Noovi after inviting firms in a special procurement process to carry out detailed engineering of the Puerto Maldonado plant.

The 150-day contract also covers determining the investment cost and preparing a timetable for the project which envisions an initial two 6,000b tanks for gasoline and two 19,000b tanks for diesel.
