Open International predicts growth in adoption of generative AI
The coming year will see an increase in artificial intelligence (AI) applications in the public sector and telecommunications companies in Latin America.
That is the opinion of William Corredor, CEO of the management software company Open International, which recently presented an integration with ChatGPT in its customer service and self-management solutions during the CS Week conference in Charlotte, North Carolina.
“This is not in production in any client. The integration is already done in our software and what we did was the initial demos,” Corredor told BNamericas.
He said that the tests were very well received by the companies that participated in the event.
“Obviously it will be a while from now before customers start to adopt it. It's a pretty conservative industry and they're going to want to be sure about all the security issues, plus prudent responses [from the AI] … but I imagine all utility companies have to go in that direction, it's natural.”
“For sure, virtually every utility company will be doing some AI initiative by the end of the year,” he added.
The executive said he also believes that, by the end of this year, other artificial intelligence alternatives that interpret natural language like ChatGPT will also appear. “It's absolutely necessary for this to happen,” he added.
Although the company has been working with AI for some years, until the appearance of ChatGPT the applications were not quite so clear.
“Until now it has been very difficult to find concrete cases to use the technology,” he said.
Another management software company, German firm SAP, is also working with generative AI in tests with representative clients from different industries.
“There is one in particular in Latin America, based in Argentina,” Claudia Boeri, SAP's CEO for the southern region of Latin America, previously told BNamericas.
UPDATES
Open International is working on migrating its installed user base to the latest version of the software, which will also be the last that will require a full migration process.
“We already have around 10 clients that have already upgraded or are in the process of upgrading and we have around 20 more to go to the new version,” he explained.
The new version of its software is the one that includes the integration of ChatGPT. “It is also a version that has all these new tools and is much more focused on the internet, the web, automation."
The company redesigned the entire architecture to enable continuous updates. "For us it's an important technological leap, it was a project that we started in 2015," he said.
