Operators Make US$14mn Fust Payment

Bnamericas
Brazil's telecom operators made their first payment into the universal telecommunications fund (Fust), contributing a total of US$14.4mn, regulator Anatel said in a statement. The government expects telcos to contribute a total of US$511mn during 2001. This first payment breaks down into 55.7% from fixed line operators, 35.6% from mobile operators, 3.8% from subscriber TV operators and 4.8% from miscellaneous operators. Operators pay 1% of their gross income into the Fust fund. From July 2001 late payers will be liable for an additional fine equivalent to 2% of the payment, plus interest at 1% per month.
