OPIS sets up shop in Mexico

The Oil Price Information Service (OPIS), a price reporting agency run by IHS Markit that calculates implied wholesale fuel costs, is set to have an in-person presence in Mexico.

Alexandra Kern is the new OPIS director of business development for Mexico and joins 25 IHS Markit colleagues in the company's Mexico City office, which was established in 1993, the company said in a release.

"Full-time personnel on the ground in Mexico will enable OPIS to remain ahead of market developments and continue to bring clients the most timely news and analysis as reforms transpire." said Brian Crotty, who leads the OPIS business as senior vice president of energy for IHS Markit.

Mexico's energy regulatory commission (CRE) announced in January that it would begin publishing monthly data for gasoline, diesel and kerosene as part of the liberalization of the sector due to the 2014 energy reform, allowing private firms to participate in the retail and import markets and providing access to first-hand information provided by firms licensed to participate in the market.

OPIS also said that, in March, it will begin publishing a free dual language magazine devoted to the Mexican fuel market called Combustibles en México.
