Oracle opens 2nd Mexico cloud region in alliance with Telmex

Oracle announced the opening of a second cloud region in Mexico at the Telmex-Triara datacenter in Monterrey.

The company's first cloud region in Mexico, also located in a Telmex datacenter, is in Querétaro.

“Oracle can now help provide stronger redundancy and disaster recovery to its customers in the Querétaro and Monterrey datacenters,” Ari Lopes, senior director of Americas research at consulting firm Omdia, said in the press release issued by the US company and Telmex.

Under an agreement, Telmex will offer Oracle Cloud Infrastructure (OCI) to companies and other organizations in Mexico. Oracle has a similar agreement with another América Móvil company (Claro) in Colombia.

"Being the first hyperscale cloud provider to open two regions in Mexico is a testament to Oracle's commitment to offering innovative cloud infrastructure services throughout the country," said Maribel Dos Santos, senior VP and director general of Oracle México.

Oracle said last week that it planned to open three cloud regions in Latin America “in the coming months.” That announcement does not include the new region in Monterrey. It also operates cloud regions in Chilean capital Santiago and São Paolo and Vinhedo, in Brazil.

The company is aiming for 90% of its revenue in the region to come from cloud services by 2025, up from 70% currently.

Globally, Oracle now has 46 cloud regions in 23 countries, from which it offers more than 100 services.

INFRASTRUCTURE

The new cloud region in Mexico will take advantage of the more than 550,000km of fiber optics that Telmex has deployed and the network of over 85 global and regional partners of OCI FastConnect, the connectivity service for Oracle's cloud regions.

In addition to Telmex, telecommunications companies Arelion and MCM Telecom will also offer FastConnect.

In Mexico, Oracle has clients in the financial sector such as Fincomun, Copayment and Financiera Maestra, health services company Christus Muguerza, real estate firm Inmobiliaria Vesta and tax-focused Konesh, among others.
