Buenos Aires, August 20, 2024. ORBITH, the satellite Internet service provider, announced that it has made available to SAPEMs some 1,700 free satellite Internet kits for rural schools and municipal offices in 17 provinces of Argentina.

ORBITH, in line with its mission to reduce the digital divide, reported that it has made available 1,700 kits to connect to satellite internet to different rural schools and municipal offices in Argentina through 17 provincial SAPEMs (Sociedad Anónima con Participación Estatal Mayoritaria). In addition to the delivery of 100 satellite internet kits to each participating province, training courses will be offered for their correct installation.

The announcement was made by Agustin Lebrero, Commercial Director of ORBITH, at a working meeting between SAPEMs and the private sector within the framework of the SAPEM 2024 COMMERCIAL MISSION event, last Tuesday, August 13. The delivery was made to the following SAPEMs: Ecom (Chaco), Refsa (Formosa), Empatel (La Pampa), Altec (Río Negro), Telco Corrientes (Corrientes), Catamarca Telecomunicaciones (Catamarca), Enersa (Entre Ríos), Enerse (Santiago Del Estero), San Juan Innova (San Juan), Jujuy Digital (Jujuy), Marandu (Misiones), Internet Para Todos (La Rioja), Saltic (Salta), San Luis Telecomunicaciones (San Luis), Córdoba Convectividad Agency (Córdoba), Santa Fe + Conectada (Santa Fe) and Neutics (Neuquén).

“We are aware of the connectivity problems that exist in rural or hard-to-reach schools throughout the country, and we want to do our part by giving 100 kits free of charge to interested SAPEMs each so that they can connect establishments in their provinces with our satellite internet technology. We will also provide them with a course so that they can install them and a monthly subscription with a different proposal,” explained Agustín Lebrero.

“At ORBITH, we have already connected more than 2,200 rural schools in the provinces of Buenos Aires, Mendoza, Salta, Chaco, San Juan and La Pampa, many of which had never had access before or had poor access. This initiative currently benefits more than 100,000 students of all levels, teachers, and auxiliary and administrative staff. In addition, we are committed to expanding this reach so that more and more students and teachers in remote areas can be connected and access the digital world, opening doors to a more equitable future full of opportunities for all,” said Lebrero and explained: “The service donated by ORBITH to the SAPEMs has the following characteristics:

Filter sensitive content and block unwanted applications for use.

High connectivity availability 99.5% and stability 100/10.

Traffic control and management.

Integration into educational content.

Fixing vandal-proof equipment.

Experience (being the largest provider of rural educational connectivity in the country).”

“We are the first Argentine company to use ultra-high-speed Ka-band HTS satellites and the first “multi-orbit” operator, as it can combine the strengths of the geostationary orbit “GEO” (which offers greater service availability at more efficient costs) and the low orbit LEO (which provides lower latency),” said Pablo Mosiul, CEO of ORBITH, and concluded: “Connectivity in schools, due to its territorial distribution and reach to the population, in addition to improving educational management, represents an opportunity for those who lack access in their homes to make use of it in alternative spaces and be included in the digital world.”
