Over US$700mn in Chile clean energy projects filed for review
Power generation and energy storage projects involving combined investment of over US$700mn were submitted for environmental review in Chile in recent days.
The biggest among them is US$380mn solar PV project Carolina Solar, involving around 400MW of generation capacity in Maule region and an associated battery storage system.
Filed by Verano Energy, work is penciled in to get underway in March 2026, according to documents filed with review agency SEA.
The second, also proposed by Verano Energy, and branded Tamarugal del Verano, involves US$150mn and installing around 170MW of solar PV capacity in Tarapacá region and an associated 2,752kWh battery storage system. Work is due to start in September 2026.
The third biggest project is US$94mn standalone battery storage system San Rafael, proposed by Solek.
Involving 90MW of batteries with four-hour injection duration, the system is planned for Valparaíso region and work is scheduled to start in December 2025.
The others bear price tags of US$20mn or under.
The bulk of new solar and wind projects entering the review system in Chile include energy storage components.
A government auction of energy storage systems is part of an energy transition bill in congress.
