Pacific Rim calling for US$315mn in damages from govt for El Dorado gold project

Vancouver-based Pacific Rim Mining (TSX: PMU) is seeking US$315mn in compensation from El Salvador as part of the ongoing arbitration at the World Bank's International Centre for the Settlement of Investment Disputes (ICSID), the company said in a release. The final phase of the lawsuit, originally filed in 2009, will verify if the country violated any local or international laws in denying the company the mining license for its El Dorado gold project and will also evaluate possible monetary liabilities. The compensation demand is based on a March 28 valuation of the company, performed by an independent expert, Pacific Rim said. "We are very confident in the merits of our case and our ability to receive fair-value for our expropriated assets," CEO Tom Shrake said in the statement.
