Panama issues hydro call, extends project deadline

Bnamericas

Panama launched a hydroelectric concession call to use water from the Piedra, Chico and Santa María rivers in the respective provinces of Chiriquí, Coclé and Veraguas.

Public services regulator Asep will hold an information meeting April 30 and accept prequalification documents through May 20. Economic offers will be due June 11.

The watchdog also extended to year-end the construction and operations deadline for 60MW hydro El Alto, which will use water from the Chiriquí Viejo river.

The project belongs to Hydro Caisán, which had until July 1 to complete work and bring the complex online. The company requested the extension due to a landslide.

Project EPC reaches 92%, with civil works 87% complete, tunnel construction at 85% and electromechanical works at 96%.
