This National Secretary of Energy release was published using machine translation.
With the purpose of ratifying the country's commitment to a global, clean and sustainable energy transition, the National Secretary of Energy (SNE), Rosilena Lindo Riggs, signed the document that accredits Panama as a new member of the Global Biofuels Alliance ( GBA).
The Alliance, an Indian initiative, intends to accelerate the global adoption of biofuels by facilitating technological advancements, intensifying the utilization of sustainable biofuels, shaping robust standard setting and certifications through the participation of a broad spectrum of stakeholders .
Also, it will act as a central repository of knowledge and center of experts. GBA aims to serve as a catalytic platform, fostering global collaboration for the advancement and widespread adoption of biofuels.
The World Biofuels Alliance also seeks to promote the use of biofuels by supporting possible advances in biofuel technology; increase the use of sustainable biofuels. It also acts as a knowledge center to help foster global collaboration and work to ensure a secure and affordable supply of biofuels.
From the National Secretariat of Energy, being part of this Alliance represents for Panama, advancing in the shared commitment to deploy cleaner and ecological fuels throughout the country, to achieve decarbonization objectives.
Biofuels are typically liquid fuels created from organic materials, such as biomass and natural waste. Most biofuels are used as transportation fuels, but they can also be used for heating and electricity generation.
These have a lower emissions intensity than fossil fuels and can therefore play a crucial role in decarbonizing transport, especially in hard-to-reduce sectors such as aviation.
According to data presented at the World Economic Forum on energy transition in 2023, solar energy has exploded in the decade since then, and global solar energy generation increased by 26% in 2022 alone. Likewise, solar energy production Biofuel consumption must increase by an average of 11% annually this decade for the world to move towards net zero, according to the International Energy Agency. In this sense, the Global Biofuels Alliance hopes to help make that happen.
