Panama power plants receive new dispatch corridor

Panama’s state power transmission company Etesa put into operation the Sabanitas-Panamá III project.

The infrastructure comprises a 46km, 230kV, 1,000MVA line and the Sabanitas and Panamá III gas insulated substations.

The circuit will increase dispatch capacity from natural gas-fired power plants in Colón province, providing an alternative corridor for electricity transport to Panamá province.

Sabanitas-Panamá III is the largest of the obligatory short-term projects in Etesa’s 2020-34 expansion plan for the national grid (PESIN).

Meanwhile, procurement information shows that over a dozen groups attended information meetings for Etesa’s calls to build the Progreso II substation and expand the San Bartolo substation.

The potential bidders include Celmec, Cobra Instalaciones y Servicios, Cox Energy Panamá, CYMI do Brasil, Grupo Ortiz, Hitachi Energy, and PowerChina.
