Panama readies tender for 2nd highway PPP
Panama is preparing a tender for the La Chorrera-Santiago stretch of the Panamericana Oeste highway, which will become the country’s second road infrastructure PPP.
The US$343mn contract will include rehabilitation, improvement and maintenance works for the 206km section.
The public works ministry (MOP) is confident that the tender process can be completed by the end of March, Ramón Adames, head of the ministry’s PPP office, told BNamericas.
According to a report from MOP’s evaluation committee that was published on December 4, 10 companies and consortiums are eligible to participate in the tender. The prequalification process was launched in June and the period for bidders to submit comments on the report will end on December 18.
The 10 companies and consortiums are:
Ayla Constructora S.A.
Sucursal de Obrascón Huarte Lain S.A.
Autopista Panamericana Oeste Consortium, consisting of Ortiz Construcciones y Proyectos and KMA Construcciones S.A.S.
Vías del Istmo PPP Consortium, made up of Promotora y Desarrolladora Mexicana de Infraestructura S.A. de C.V., Calzada Construcciones S.A. de C.V., and Ingeniería Estrella S.A.
La Chorrera – Santiago PPP Consortium, consisting of Mota-Engil Engenharia e Construção S.A. and Mota Engil México.
Panamericana Oeste Consortium, made up of Constructora Rodsa S.A. and Cointer Concesiones S.L.
China Harbour Engineering Company Ltd.
CPA Oeste Consortium, consisting of Constructora Meco S.A. and Constructora Meco Panamá S.A.
Some of these participated in the country’s first tender for a highway PPP contract, which is close to being awarded.
