Panama solar developer secures CentAm grid clearance

Panamanian company Santiago Solar PTY has secured authorization to connect photovoltaic capacity to Central America’s transmission network (RTR).

The capacity will come from the Parque Solar Santiago project which consists of seven parks, each 9.99MW, in Veraguas province.

The developer filed the connection request with power interconnection commission CRIE on April 1.

In its approval, CRIE highlighted analysis from EOR, which operates the region’s Siepac grid, that the dispatch boost will not put RTR’s operation at risk.

Last year, Santiago Solar PTY awarded Spain’s Urbas an engineering, procurement and construction contract for the complex.

BAC Credomatic is helping finance the project which has a power purchase agreement with Enel.
