The Vice Minister of Mines and Energy of the Ministry of Public Works and Communications (MOPC), Mauricio Bejarano, together with other national authorities, met with the governor of the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, Eduardo Riedel, with the aim of promoting economic development and regional integration through the gas pipeline project that will connect the shipment of gas from Vaca Muerta (Argentina) through the Paraguayan Chaco to Brazil.

The meeting, held on Tuesday at the Office of the Government of the State of Mato Grosso, was chaired by the Minister of Industry and Commerce, Javier Giménez, and was attended by the ambassador of Paraguay, Juan Ángel Delgadillo, advisors from Rediex and businessmen from the sector.

Much interest

According to Bejarano, Governor Riedel and his entourage, together with the industries and natural gas traders of Mato Grosso do Sul, expressed “great interest” in this project, as they see the benefits it will bring to the region.

"This energy source will be very important to immediately respond to the future demand for industrialization that our country intends to have," said the deputy minister of MOPC.

He also indicated that they have held talks at a "higher level" with the central government of Paraguay and Argentina, who have also expressed "superlative interest" in this energy integration initiative.

It is worth mentioning that the meeting was also attended by Vice Governor Barbosinha, the Secretary of Government and Strategic Management, Rodrigo Pérez, the Undersecretary of the Secretariat of Environment, Development, Science, Technology and Innovation (Semadesc), Walter Carneiro Júnior and Paulo Henrique Gomes Antello e Silva, Risk and Compliance Advisor of the Companhia da Gás de Mato Grosso do Sul.

The initiative to build this new gas corridor aims to strengthen the Bioceanic Route through this new link between the Atlantic and the Pacific. Authorities from both countries reaffirmed their commitment to promote this strategic project in the short term.
