Paraguay awards Caaguazú hospital contract

Paraguay’s public works ministry (MOPC) has awarded a 151bn-guaraní (US$22mn) hospital contract to a consortium compromising Jiménez Gaona y Lima, Itasa and Proel Ingeniería.

The winning bid for the new hospital in the city of Coronel Oviedo (Caaguazú department) was 38% below the reference budget, which was nearly 245bn guaraníes, the ministry said in press release.

The contract was initially tendered with a 363bn-guaraní budget, but the ministry lowered it by cutting the hospital equipment component, which will be tendered by the health ministry (MSPyBS).

The awarded works entail building a 20,000m2 complex with capacity for 100 ambulatory beds, 20 ICU beds and five surgery halls among other features.
