Paraguay awards San Juan Nepomuceno highway works

Paraguay's public works and communications ministry has awarded the contract for the improvement and pavement of the San Juan Nepomuceno-ruta No. 6 highway in Caazapá department to the consortium Tava'i.

The works, to be carried out on 82km of the highway, will be financed with a loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The contract was awarded to the consortium for a price of 363mn guaraníes (US$61mn).

It is estimated that the works will begin in late February or early March next year, following the signing of the contract.

Eleven companies submitted offers last September to develop the works including: Luzia Engenharia e Construcoes for 377mn guaraníes, Tocsa-Ecomipa for 418mn, Rotec-Ruta No. 6 for 490mn and Vial Caazapá for 437mn.

Other offers included consortium Constructor Cupmex for 410mn guaraníes, Rovella Carranza for 427mn, Constructora Santa Fe for 434mn, Corsán Corviam Construcción for 400mn guaraníes, Green SA for 352mn, and finally consortium Ruta VI for 421mn guaraníes.

The project is aimed at improving transit conditions on the highway, which gives direct access to the districts of San Juan Nepomuceno and Tavaí, as well as intermediate locations such as Santo Domingo, San Carlos, Enramadita, Caazapamí and Tembiaporenda.

The works will also help boost the competitiveness of the country's productive sector, as well as Paraguay's economic and social integration, since the road forms part of the highway corridor connecting the important productive areas in the departments of Caazapá, Itapúa and Alto Paraná to the country's main river ports.
