Paraguay begins highway paving works
Paraguay's public works ministry (MOPC) said paving works have started on a stretch covering 84.6km of highways and 4.8km of access roads, located between the town of San Juan Nepomuceno and the connection to the Ruta 6 highway in the Caazapá department.
According to the MOPC press release, the project is being financed with a US$105mn loan from the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB). The contract was awarded to consortium Tava'I in December last year for 363bn guaranties (US$65mn).
Other works include security improvements and repairs to the drainage system.
Part of the highway network that connects the Caazapá, Itapúa and Alto Paraná departments with the country's main fluvial ports, MOPC said paving the stretch in question will help companies improve their competitiveness, while Paraguay's economic and social integration will also benefit.
