The Government of Paraguay continues to advance in the process of digital inclusion by providing free internet access with the recent installation of 19 new Free Wifi points in various locations in the country. This initiative, undertaken by the Ministry of Information and Communication Technologies (MITIC), is carried out through the Digital Agenda Support program.
The new Free Wifi points are distributed in the departments of San Pedro, Concepción, Amambay, Canindeyú, Presidente Hayes, Boquerón, and Alto Paraguay. With this expansion, it is possible to reach all of the country's municipalities, even those recently created, thus guaranteeing that each community has access to this important connectivity tool.
More than 400 points with Free Wifi
The total number of Free Internet in Public Spaces (IGEP) in operation amounts to 408. Of that total, 110 were installed by the MITIC in 2019, 279 were added at the end of 2023 and now another 19 have been installed with resources from the Support Program the Digital Agenda.
Among the cities benefiting from this latest expansion are Tacuati, Paso Horqueta, Sargento José Félix López (Puentesiño), San Carlos del Apa, Zanja Pytã, Karapaí, Capitán Bado, Ypejhu, San Lázaro, San Vicente Pancholo, Concejal Bruguez, Teniente Esteban Martínez, Campo Aceval, Puerto Piñasco (Indigenous Community), Mariscal Estigarribia, Fuerte Olimpo, Bahía Negra and Mariscal Estigarribia (Indigenous Community), and Santa Rosa del Monday.
This initiative represents an important step towards reducing the digital divide in Paraguay, allowing more people to access the information, education and opportunities provided by the Internet.
How to connect
The free internet points are located in squares, parks, libraries, cultural centers and other public spaces throughout the country. To access the connection, users must select the “GobiernoPy Free WiFi” signal or scan the QR code found at the marked points, choose the preferred login option (Facebook account, Google account or with the Electronic Identity ) and ready.
Once connected, the citizen can browse social networks, use messaging applications, take distance courses, carry out online procedures or any other online service.
