Paraguay needs US$2.3bn for power distribution
Paraguay's state power company Ande requires some US$2.3bn over 10 years to improve distribution, according to Ande head Pedro Ferreira.
The official made the comment after signing a five-year cooperation agreement with Itaipú Binacional in which Ande presented a package of proposed works for US$100mn.
Ferreira said that although more than 99% of the population is connected to the national grid, distribution losses surpass 20% due partly to the precarious state of some lines. The plan is to tackle some 5,000km in 2019, he added.
Days earlier, he met with the senate's finance and budget committee to argue in favor a bill which would provide a state guarantee for US$300mn in distribution and transmission works, as part of Ande's US$7bn master plan.
In related news, Ande awarded Concret-Mix a US$6.65mn contract to build the Villa Elisa 220kV substation and expand the La Victoria substation.
