Paraguay starts work on Pilar coastal defenses

Works have started on new coastal defenses for the Paraguayan city of Pilar (Ñeembucú department), which were awarded for 532bn guaraníes (US$82mn).

This contract represents phase 1 of the overall plan and entails building a 15km coastal wall, 22 pumping stations and a 9km canal at the San Lorenzo stream.

Works are expected to take 36 months and are executed by consortium CTC (Construpar, Concret Mix, TOCSA, Tecnoedil), the public works ministry (MOPC) said in a press release.

The tender for the second phase is expected to be launched in eight months. That phase will add 6km of rain water collectors, 25km of sewers and a wastewater pre-treatment plant.

A tender for the third phase to add an avenue and linear parks is expected to be launched in 12 months.
