Paraguay's president-elect, Temer to discuss connectivity

Paraguayan president-elect, Mario Abdo Benítez (pictured), will discuss connectivity issues with Brazil's President Michel Temer in a meeting scheduled for June 11, in Brasília.
Paraguay wants to improve its internet connection and thus seeks access to the sub-sea international cabling system reaching Brazil via the Atlantic, Paraguayan news agency AIP reported citing senator Arnoldo Wiens.
The endeavor would require a land route crossing Paraguayan and part of Brazilian territory. On the Paraguayan side, the initiative is already reportedly advanced and taken up by telecom regulator Conatel.
The senator was quoted by AIP as saying that being connected to this global network system will allow Paraguay "to have a two-times faster internet at half the price."
Other expected topics of the meeting will be a bridge project to link the cities of Carmelo Peralta, in Paraguay, and Porto Murtinho, in the Brazilian state of Mato Grosso do Sul, and the first steps toward a future renegotiation of the Itaipu Treaty on behalf of Paraguay.
