PRESS RELEASE from PCR and ArcelorMittal
May 30, 2024

With the presence of the Governor of San Luis, Claudio Poggi, and directors of the companies PCR and ArcelorMittal Acindar, along with other national and provincial authorities and community representatives, the first wind energy park “San Luis Norte”, was inaugurated in the town of Toro Negro, department of Belgrano, north of the province of San Luis.

The park, which is deployed on a 1,500-hectare property, has 25 wind turbines with an installed capacity of 112.5MW of power and involved an investment of US$210 million.

This renewable complex, built in association between PCR and ArcelorMittal Acindar, has planned, as announced at the event, an additional stage that consists of the construction of a solar energy park with 18MW of power that will make it the first hybrid renewable energy generation park in the country, highlighting the wind and solar resources that this region of the province has. In this way, the complex will have a total installed capacity of 130.5MW of power, which is equivalent to supplying electricity for 210,000 homes per year, while at the same time contributing to an annual emissions reduction of 190,000 tons of carbon dioxide.

“We are very proud to be able to inaugurate our first wind energy park in the province of San Luis and also to be able to communicate today our commitment to begin the construction of the solar park, expanding its generation capacity to another 18MW, thus becoming the first hybrid park in Argentina. This is one more step that we take as a company, demonstrating that we are protagonists and drivers of the energy transition of our country, providing solutions to promote the decarbonization of industries that seek to contribute to a cleaner planet," said Martín Federico Brandi, CEO of PCR.

For his part, Federcio Amos, CEO of Acindar, expressed that “the inauguration of the park's operations represents an important milestone in the history of ArcelorMittal Acindar. We are pioneers in the Argentine steel industry in the supply of renewable energy, and the first within ArcelorMittal globally to implement a project of this magnitude. We are proud to be promoters, together with PCR, of the country's renewable generation and at the same time contribute to the planet by reducing emissions into the atmosphere,” said Federico Amos, CEO of ArcelorMittal Acindar.
