Permitting advances for Peru renewable energy projects totaling 500MW
Peru’s energy and mines ministry has received semi-detailed environmental impact studies for three renewable energy projects for a combined 508MW.
The largest of the proposed plants is Fenix Power Peru’s 251MW Algarrobal solar park in the southern region of Moquegua.
Algarrobal is due to cost an estimated US$242mn and connect to the national grid at the existing Montalvo substation via a 38km, 220kV transmission line. Construction would take 20 months.
The other two projects are the 202.5MW Vientos de Murrup and 54MW Torocco wind farms which Cordillera Solar II and Bow Power Peru are developing, respectively.
Vientos de Murrup would be built in the northern regions of Lambayeque and Piura, cost US$320mn and take 21 months to complete.
Torocco would span the southern regions of Ica and Arequipa, cost US$103mn and construction would take 15-18 months.
Power grid coordinator COES has approved the pre-operational study for Algarrobal and is reviewing documents for Torocco, while there is no record for Vientos de Murrup.
