Permitting advances for Peru renewable energy projects totaling 800MW
Four renewable energy projects in Peru involving nearly 800MW have taken a step forward in the environmental permitting process.
The energy and mines ministry’s energy environmental affairs office approved reference terms to draft environmental impact documents for three planned solar parks and one wind farm along with their associated transmission lines.
The photovoltaic projects are Tierra Blanca (250MW), Tejas (200MW) and Villasalto (125MW), and belong to Viridi Re & Blaud Energy Peru, Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Dioria and Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Villasalto, respectively.
Tierra Blanca and Tejas are due to be built in Ica region and Villasalto in Arequipa.
And Empresa de Generación Eléctrica Vientos de Mochica is behind the 222.6MW Vientos de Medianía wind project in Lambayeque region.
To date, all the projects except Vientos de Medianía have secured approval from power grid coordinator COES of their pre-operational study.
COES data also shows that wind and solar production in the first half of 2024 grew 73% and 46%, respectively, compared with 1H23.
