Permitting underway for proposed Trinidad-Venezuela gas trade
Trinidad and Tobago’s plan to secure natural gas from Venezuela’s offshore Dragon natural gas field is advancing.
Information from the twin-island nation’s Environmental Management Authority shows that Shell Trinidad & Tobago submitted a request to conduct geotechnical and geophysical site surveys from the maritime boundary to the existing Hibiscus field, in the North Coast Marine Area.
Shell seeks an environmental clearance certificate to carry out the work along the proposed pipeline route.
In December, the countries signed an agreement whereby Shell and Trinidad and Tobago’s Natural Gas Company (NGC) will help develop Dragon, after the US issued a license to Trinidad and Tobago in January to participate in the acreage.
Around 185Mf3/d (million cubic feet per day) of gas would be dispatched to Trinidad and Tobago in a first phase.
This week, Trinidad and Tobago received a further boost with the granting of a new US license to begin work on the Cocuina-Manakin offshore field shared with Venezuela.
