Peru airport investments take off in Jan-April
After having totaled US$55mn in 2023 and US$34mn in 2022, airport investments in Peru tracked by transport regulator Ositran were US$128mn between January and April this year and are expected to keep growing.
According to a report by the regulator, total investments in transportation infrastructure – ports, roads, railways and airports – totaled US$290mn in the first four months, up from US$247mn between January and April 2023.
Just in April this year, investments were US$57.8mn, up from US$17.4mn a year earlier.
PROJECTS
Currently there are three airport projects supervised by Ositran.
Works to upgrade Jorge Chávez international airport (AIJC) in Lima involved investment of US$34.9mn in April and totaled US$84mn in the first four months of the year. The US$2bn project is more than 80% complete and is due to be delivered on December 18.
Concessionaire Lima Airport Partners (LAP) said another US$400mn will go to complementary infrastructure under construction: a logistics park, two hotels, a fuel plant, aviation services and parking.
Next came the first group of 12 regional airports with works in the hands of concessionaire Aeropuertos del Perú (AdP). In the first four months, investments totaled US$43.7mn compared to US$23.7mn in all 2023. In mid-March, AdP said investments will be around US$108mn this year.
Finally, the second group of regional airports did not register progress in April and so far investment has totaled slightly more than US$1mn, the Ositran report shows. Aeropuertos Andinos del Perú (AAP), the group in charge, said this year it will invest US$7.94mn in the works.
