Ministry of Production

In a momentous milestone for the Peruvian industry, the Ministry of Production (PRODUCE) has approved the Detailed Environmental Impact Study (EIA-d) of the Green Hydrogen Production Plant - Horizonte de Verano project. With an investment estimated by the investor at more than US$ 11.2 billion, this initiative is positioned as the largest of its kind in Latin America and will position Peru as a benchmark in the production of green hydrogen in the region.

The project, led by Horizonte de Verano SAC, will be developed in Arequipa and will focus on the production of green hydrogen to obtain ammonia, an essential component in the chemical and energy industry. The plant will include a water desalination plant and a photovoltaic solar plant.

The approval of this megaproject marks a milestone in Peru's productive development strategy, with a strong focus on sustainability and innovation. Green hydrogen, obtained from renewable sources such as solar and wind energy, is positioned as a key element in the global energy transition, allowing for the reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and progress towards a cleaner economy.

The Minister of Production, Sergio González Guerrero, highlighted its importance: “The approval of this project represents a milestone for the sustainable industrialization of Peru, consolidating us as a key player in the production of green hydrogen, an essential resource for the global energy transition. This plant will not only boost employment and development in Arequipa, but will also position us at the forefront of the chemical and clean energy industry in Latin America.”

Peru has enormous potential to become a leader in the production and export of green hydrogen. Its strategic geographic location, abundance of renewable resources and competitive production costs make it an attractive destination for investments in this sector.

Minister González Guerrero reaffirmed PRODUCE's commitment to sustainable development: “The world is moving towards cleaner and more sustainable energy, and Peru cannot be left behind. This is just the beginning of a new era for the national industry, in which innovation and sustainability will be fundamental pillars for economic growth.”

With this initiative, Peru will consolidate its position as a key player in the transition towards a more sustainable and competitive economy, promoting innovation and technological development in the industrial sector.
