Peru approves medium-term power transmission roadmap

Peru’s energy and mining investment regulator Osinergmin approved a power transmission investment plan for May 1, 2025, through April 30, 2029.

The roadmap totals US$274 million and proposed works across 14 demand areas were submitted by owners of complementary and secondary transmission systems. The original plan was US$219mn.

The bulk of investment is for demand area 6 which covers Lima region and Huarmey province in Áncash region (US$94.5mn), followed by area 7 (southern and eastern parts of the capital, US$63.7mn) and area 8 (regions Ica, Ayacucho and Arequipa, US$28.5mn).

Enel and Luz del Sur will carry out the bulk of spend in areas 6 and 7, respectively.

Osinergmin will now accept observations from stakeholders with final resolutions to be published at the end of July.

DEMAND OUTLOOK

New figures from power grid coordinator COES show that capacity and energy demand this year are forecast to hit 8,150MW and 61,505GWh, up 3.5% and 3.8% respectively.

Capacity and energy demand in 2025 are projected to reach 8,279MW and 63,894GWh.
