Peru begins H2 with hydrocarbons output dip

Natural gas production in Peru in July slid 23% sequentially to 35.1Mm3/d (million cubic meters per day), information from hydrocarbons licensing authority Perupetro shows.

The data reveals that output from blocks 56, 57 and 88, which together accounted for 93% of gas production in the month, fell 45%, 40% and 13%, respectively, to 5.16Mm3/d, 3.59Mm3/d and 24Mm3/d.

Nevertheless, gas production in 2023 has averaged 40.1Mm3/d compared with 37.6Mm3/d last year.

Crude output last month also fell, 10% to 37,003b/d from June due to a 33% drop from block 95 – the country’s principal oil producer – to 11,405b/d.

Although a reason for a reduced contribution from the PetroTal acreage was not provided, protests and blockades have been impacting operations, as well as low river levels for the transport of crude on barges.

July’s other top producers were blocks X (9,847b/d) and Z-2B (4,650b/d).

Oil production this year has averaged 39,280b/d versus 40,538b/d in 2022.
