Peru bets on int'l roadshows to spur private investment and PPPs

Peru has embarked on a major drive to regain the confidence of private investors abroad after the economy was hit hard by strikes and protests in Q1.

The effort is spearheaded by private investment promotion agency ProInversión and export and tourism promotion agency PromPerú, which are using roadshows to present a large number of projects to potential investors in Latin America, Europe and Asia.

Private investment remains in negative territory but is expected to gradually recover during H2 as large projects are being activated, in the mining industry and other sectors.

ProInversión

The agency plans to award contracts worth more than US$2bn in H2 and forge closer ties with Latin American companies to generate more PPPs.

On Wednesday and Thursday, ProInversión presented a portfolio of 52 projects worth US$9bn at roadshows in Mexico and Chile.

Many are energy, transportation and sanitation projects that will be awarded during 2023-24.

In Mexico the agency was planning to meet with companies such as Marhnos, Samsung, Arendal, Blackrock, Ticsa, Grupo Hycsa, Aleatica, Grupo Omega, Mota-Engil Latin America, Grupo México, Carso. And in Chile it participated in the LATAM Airport Summit, and was planning to hold meetings with Abertis Infraestructuras, BNP Paribas, Aguas Nuevas, Besalco Concesiones, Copsa, Icafal, Costera Norte, Constructora Valko, Patria and R&Q Ingeniería.

More roadshows

ProInversión will hold a third roadshow from July 12-14 in the Colombian cities of Bogotá and Medellín.

Colombia is attractive for Peru because it has several infrastructure companies that have international experience, an executive from the agency told BNamericas.

The portfolio that ProInversión will present includes the Ancón industrial park, the Lima beltway, the fourth stretch of the Longitudinal de la Sierra highway, potable water works, and school projects.

The agency will meet with large local corporations and companies that have participated in Peruvian PPPs.

ProInversión will also participate in the PPP Americas event in Panama from July 18-20, which is hosted by the IDB. And in the next few months it will hold roadshows in several cities in Europe and Asia.

PromPerú

PromPerú on its part sought to drum up interest among Argentine firms at the Invest Day Peru-Argentina 2023, held in Lima on Wednesday and Thursday.

The agency presented 88 projects worth a combined US$826mn in the industries of logistics, tech, food and mining services.
