Peru declares void tender for Puerto Maldonado wastewater treatment plant

Peru’s investment promotion agency ProInversión declared void the tender for the Puerto Maldonado wastewater treatment plant (PTAR Maldonado) after no bids were received for the US$86mn project.

Four companies pre-qualified for the tender, but only two showed up for the award ceremony. Spanish companies GS Inima Environment and FCC Aqualia did not attend the event, while the consortium made up of Copasa and Almar and Mexico’s Tecnología Intercontinental attended the ceremony but did not present offers.

In January 2023, ProInversión made adjustments to the Maldonado contract and raised the projected capex from US$59mn to US$86mn.

In 2022, the agency postponed the bidding process twice.

The project, whose contract and capex will have to be reviewed again, involves designing, financing, building and operating the plant in Puerto Maldonado, capital of Madre de Dios region.

The city is in the Amazon and is some 1,500km by road from Lima.
