Peru's investment promotion agency ProInversión foresees around US$1.8bn of telecom projects being awarded to the private sector in 2025-26, according to a portfolio update provided by the entity.

That makes the sector the fourth most important in terms of value in ProInversión’s database of projects.

Of the total capex of projects expected to be awarded in the next two years, 69% are in four industries: oil and gas (US$4.38bn), highways (US$3.54bn), sanitation (US$1.97bn) and telecommunications (US$1.78bn).

Next comes irrigation (US$1.26bn), real estate (US$845mn), health (US$714mn), education (US$615mn), airports (US$550mn), mining (US$512mn), ports (US$397mn) and tourism (US$220mn).

The goal for the next months is “quite ambitious”, ProInversión’s chief José Salardi said in a statement on the agency's website, but added that it is "based on the results the agency has been achieving over the past 19 months in promoting and awarding projects, especially those that help boost decentralized investment and production in the country."

The total value of PPP projects in communications surpassed US$3.7bn in Peru in 2002-23, putting it ahead of sectors such as irrigation, sanitation and health.

In 2023, projects awarded by ProInversión in telecommunications amounted to US$640mn, ahead of the health industry and trailing only the power sector.
